Diagram showing light energy (white arrows) emitted by the sun, warming the earth's surface which then emits the energy as heat (orange arrows), which warms the atmosphere and is then re-emitted as heat by three of the greenhouse gas molecules (water, carbon dioxide, and methane)

The gas plant is less polluting than the other

1 :
The combustion of a fossil fuel generates huge amounts of heat that serve to transform water into steam

2: the pressurized steam that comes out of the boiler turns the turbine blades

3: the generator, the mechanical energy produced by the turbine is combined into electrical energy

4: the steam that comes out of the turbine is transformed back into liquid water to start the gas production process again

Gas is one of the four fundamental states of nmatter (the others being solid, liquid, and plasma). A pure gas may be made up of individual atoms (e.g. a noble gas like neon), elemental molecules made from one type of atom (e.g. oxygen), or compoud molecules made from a variety of atoms (e.g. carbon dioxide). A gas mixture, such as air, contains a variety of pure gases. What distinguishes a gas from liquids and solids is the vast separation of the individual gas particles. This separation usually makes a colorless gas invisible to the human observer. The interaction of gas particles in the presence of electric and gravitational fields are considered negligible, as indicated by the constant velocity vectors in the image.

CURIOSITIES

Gas-phase particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) move around freely in the absence of an applied electric field.
